Sunday 17th of January 2016 was “Journée d’audition” during the “Biennale de Quatuors à Cordes” in Paris. This year 15 string quartets from America, Asia and Europe presented themselves to the artistic directors of major concert halls and festivals such as Aix-en-Provence, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Lisbon, Paris, Tokyo, Verbier and Vienna.
The Quatuor Van Kuijk and the Piatti Quartet were two of the quartets taking part. Even more distinctly than in 2014 the Quatuor Van Kuijk was unanimously highly praised for its rendition of string quartets by Mozart, Debussy and Nishimura (“Pulse of the Lights”). The Piatti Quartet made its début on this stage with compositions by Turnage ("Contusion") and Ravel: “strikingly pure atmosphere, wonderfully accurate ensemble”.
