Raphael Wallfisch

"Any more compellingly idiomatic or richly seasoned cello playing than this would be hard to contemplate"
- International Record Review

Introduction

Raphael Wallfisch is one of the most internationally celebrated cellists of our time, equally active in both the concert hall and the recording studio. With concert appearances around the world, Wallfisch is at the height of his powers with a masterful technique and a soaring, singing sound that evokes a tradition continued from his teacher, Piatigorsky. He has a vast, and wide ranging repertoire, and a discography of more than 80 CDs on labels such as Chandos, EMI, CPO, Nimbus and Lyrita. Wallfisch`s passion for rare and neglected repertoire has most recently been reflected in a series of 5 CDs for CPO, entitled ”Voices in the Wilderness”. This series comprises several world premieres of lost concertos by such composers as Karl Weigl, Weinberg, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Reizenstein, Ben Haim, Bloch and Gál.
